Details from Freewheeling Press Wawayanda State Park Before it became a state park in 1963, Wawayanda’s vast natural resources provided a source of income for the iron and logging industries. Present-day Wawayanda is a prime location for outdoor recreation in northern New Jersey. Wawayanda, located near the New York border, has a reputation for being more “biker friendly” than many other locations. Forest roads built for use by loggers are now part of this 13,000-acre park’s extensive system of trails, most of them open to mountain bikers.
